There are five faculties namely
§
Agriculture
§
Veterinary
& Animal Sciences
§
Agricultural
Engineering
§
Fisheries and
§
Basic Science
and Humanities.
The
scientists who are appointed in the faculty of Basic Science and Humanities
are now deployed to work in the other four faculties. The Basic Science Faculty has no separate Dean.
The Faculty of Agriculture
is the largest among the four faculties followed by faculties of Veterinary
Sciences, Agricultural Engineering and Fisheries. In 1972, the total staff strength of the Faculty of Agriculture
was only nine Professors, 21 Jr. Professors and 32 Lecturers compared
to 52 Professors, 236 Associate Professors and 212 Assistant Professors
during 2000. Similar increase was recorded in the Veterinary Faculty
also. Now more than 70% of the Faculty has doctoral/post-doctoral qualifications. Forty per cent of the Faculty members have
taken the highest degree from outside the State and 18% from foreign
countries.
