1.2.1 FACULTY

There are five faculties namely

§         Agriculture

§         Veterinary & Animal Sciences

§         Agricultural Engineering

§         Fisheries and

§         Basic Science and Humanities.

The scientists who are appointed in the faculty of Basic Science and Humanities are now deployed to work in the other four faculties.  The Basic Science Faculty has no separate Dean.

The Faculty of Agriculture is the largest among the four faculties followed by faculties of Veterinary Sciences, Agricultural Engineering and Fisheries.  In 1972, the total staff strength of the Faculty of Agriculture was only nine Professors, 21 Jr. Professors and 32 Lecturers compared to 52 Professors, 236 Associate Professors and 212 Assistant Professors during 2000. Similar increase was recorded in the Veterinary Faculty also. Now more than 70% of the Faculty has doctoral/post-doctoral qualifications.  Forty per cent of the Faculty members have taken the highest degree from outside the State and 18% from foreign countries.
