1.2 ORGANISATION AND GOVERNANCE |
The supreme authority of the
University is the 97 member General Council and the Chief Executive
body is the 23 member Executive Committee.
The 49 member Academic Council, the Boards of Studies of the
four faculties and the four member Finance Committee are the other statutory
authorities. The Vice-Chancellor is assisted by the Registrar, the Comptroller, Deans of Faculties,
the Directors of Research, Extension, Physical Plant, Students’ Welfare
and the Librarian holding tenurial positions, and recognised as the Officers of the University.
In addition, the Director of Academic and Postgraduate Studies
assists the Vice-Chancellor in academic affairs.
The General Council consists
of ex-officio members, elected members and members nominated by the
Chancellor. It has the power
to review actions of the Executive Committee and the Academic Council. The General Council has three committees viz.
Statute Committee, Assurance Committee and Accounts Committee.
The executive powers of the University including the general superintendence and control over the institutions of the University are vested in the Executive Committee. It has six sub committees namely, Finance, Planning and Development, Research Review, Establishment, Students’ Welfare and Works Committee.
